Advocate is a convenient top spot medication used for cats to cover intestinal worms, ear mites, lice, heartworm and fleas.
WHAT IS IT?
Advocate is easy to administer, with a small volume of liquid delivered onto the skin on the back of the neck, then absorbed systemically to kill internal parasites including whipworm, hookworm, roundworm and heartworm. It also kills external parasites like mites, fleas and lice.
The only internal parasite that advocate does not cover is tapeworm. Most cats get tapeworm from hunting behaviour or from ingesting fleas during grooming (even dead fleas can transmit tapeworm). Cats fed raw meat generally will not get tapeworm if the meat has been cooked or frozen.
Advocate is safe to use from 9 weeks of age.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Advocate contains two ingredients, moxidectin and imidacloprid. The moxidectin kills internal parasites, while the imidacloprid kills fleas and ear mites.
The medications used are extremely safe and have been safety tested up to 10 times the regular dose. If you do happen to bathe your cat, Advocate is also water fast.
WHEN SHOULD YOU USE IT?
Advocate should be used monthly for year-round protection of you cat from internal and external parasites from 9 weeks of age.
If you live in a heartworm area and have not previously treated your cat for heartworm, please consult your Veterinarian before using Advocate.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING ADVOCATE
Make sure you check the product packaging and expiry date whenever you purchase Advocate. The expiry date should be more than 6 months from the date of purchase.
If your cat is less than 4 kg use Advocate orange for small cats
If your cat is over 4 kg use Advocate purple for large cats
WHERE TO BUY?
Advocate can be purchased at your Veterinary clinic, at a pet shop or often very competitively online for minimal delivery costs.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED?
Advocate is a complete parasite preventative for indoor cats. For cats that hunt and spend time outdoors, or those that live in high flea burden areas, it would be advisable to use a separate tapeworm tablet every 3 months.
